The Cardinals have a bullpen that is in the middle of a transition. Their closer probably only does have a season or two left of closing. There are some good young pitchers here, but are they ready to be a closer yet?

Ryan Franklin

Ryan Franklin is the aging closer for the Cardinals. Franklin is not a typical dominating closer as far as strikeouts go. In fact, he does have a very low strikeout rate (5.82k/9ip in 2010) and he relies on his defense to get outs for him. Most of the time that is good enough to get the save, because Franklin does have very good control (4.2k/bb ratio in 2010). However, opposing hitters are able to homer off of him (7hrs in 65 innings for 2010). Franklin depends heavily on his control being very good to be a solid closer should that slip just a bit then things can get real ugly real quick.
